Ben began practicing Falun Gong in 1998. He was impressed by the teachings and he knew that he would follow the instructions for the rest of his life.
When the persecution began in 1999, government owned media began broadcasted defaming content and disseminated propaganda against Falun Gong.
Just before New Year’s Day in 2001 Ben decided to go to Beijing to appeal the government decisions. His intention was to tell the government that Falun Gong is good and that persecution must stop. Without legal procedures, Ben was abducted by police after yelling “Falun Dafa is good.” Without a trial, he was sent to a Detention Centre, then a Brain Washing (re-education) Centre and Forced Labor Camp. Ben was detained for almost two years where he witnessed and experienced torture of Falun Gong practitioners. Some of the methods used were electric buttons, starvation, and being locked in a cage with four other practitioners where he was unable to sit down because of lack of space. In Labour Camps he was forced to manufacture plastic flowers and shoes. His day began at 7 a.m. and he had to work until 11 p.m, with very little time for meals and for the use of a bathroom. If he did not complete his quota for the day, he was beaten and punished. During his detention, the government applied pressure on his family members to encourage him to recount his beliefs.
Today Ben lives in Canada. He wants to bear witness to the victims of the Chinese persecution and he does everything in his power to change China from the outside.
